The parish is approximately 10 miles long and is 5 miles at its widest point. It is bordered on the north by the River Shannon and, in a clockwise direction, around its perimeter by the parishes of Kilcornan, Cappagh, Coolcappa and Shanagolden/ Foynes/Robertstown. The population of the parish is approximately 2,500.
