Sacraments and Devotions

BAPTISMS: (By appointment)
Askeaton: Saturday 6:00 pm and Sunday, 12.15pm (i.e. after the 11.30am Mass)
Ballysteen: Sunday 10:15am (i.e. after the 9.30am Mass); 12:30pm is possible if there is no previously-booked Baptism in Askeaton.

From the 16th August 2020 we have resumed Baptisms in the parish, subject to the above arrangements. Due to the continuing risks posed by the Coronavirus there are some further , Guidelines for the Celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism in the parish:

In keeping with current Government regulations and guidelines from the bishops there are certain adjustments we have to make so as to be able to celebrate the sacrament safely.
Attendance at the ceremony will have to be confined to close family members of not more than 10 people. It is now compulsory for each person attending to wear a face-mask. Also you should sanitise your hands at the door.
In Askeaton Church you should enter by the left-hand (west) door. Though, if the Baptism takes place on Sunday after Mass you may already be in the church. In either case you will be seated in the west wing of the church.
There are also some adjustments within the Baptism ceremony itself:
Some of the rituals, usually performed by the priest or sponsors, will now be carried out by the parents only. These include: making the Sign of the Cross on the child’s forehead and wrapping the child in the Baptismal shawl.
Some of the rituals performed by the priest will have to be carried out differently: anointing with both Oils will be performed by the priest using a cotton bud; all will remain in their seats for the blessings at the end of the ceremony.
The priest will baptise the child with water in the normal way.
Parents (only) and child may have a photo taken at the Baptismal Font or at the Altar. All group photos should be taken outdoors, please.
Please sanitise your hands as you leave the church via the west door.
Finally, your Baptismal group is asked to nominate two (2) adults to remain in the church after the others have left in order to sanitise the seats that were occupied. [Materials are supplied by the parish.]
May you have a joyful day. May your child grow to be a true friend of Jesus.
